GUIDE · BUSINESS ANALYTICS

From clicks to revenue: what attribution looks like inside the operating business.

Website analytics can tell you where a visitor came from and what they did online. Management usually needs a harder answer: which acquisition source produced real customers, collected revenue and profitable business outcomes?

GUIDE

The click is only the beginning

Campaign platforms are very good at reporting impressions, clicks and platform-attributed conversions.

Those metrics are useful, but they do not necessarily tell the business whether the customer actually completed the stay, paid the invoice, returned later or produced a healthy margin.

GUIDE

Preserve acquisition identity

Attribution starts by preserving the acquisition evidence at the moment the visitor arrives.

That can include UTM parameters and supported advertising click identifiers. Those identifiers should be retained in a bounded first-party analytics record so later conversions can be connected back to the original source when evidence exists.

GUIDE

Connect the funnel to business records

The useful chain is not campaign to page view. It is campaign to business outcome.

Depending on the industry that chain might continue through a lead, quotation, booking, order, check-in, invoice, payment, repeat purchase or project.

  • Marketing: campaign → visitor → lead.
  • Hotel: search → booking → stay → extras → payment.
  • Restaurant: campaign → reservation → visit → POS bill → repeat customer.
  • Commercial: lead → quotation → customer → invoice → collected revenue.
GUIDE

Revenue is still not the final answer

Two campaigns can produce the same revenue and very different business value.

When cost and margin are available, management can ask which campaign produced the most profitable customers rather than merely the most bookings or orders.

GUIDE

Keep analytics organization-scoped

A multi-company platform must not turn shared analytics infrastructure into shared customer visibility.

Properties, events and downstream business outcomes need to remain inside the organization that owns them.
